Despite facing fresh challenges every year from new and old competitors to take away market share, Spain increased her number of visitors in the first couple of months of 2007 for what could be a good year for a country that has been the favourite destination for Europeans for nearly fifty years.


The visitor numbers were so good that it broke new records for Spain, with 4 per cent more holiday makers in January 2007 compared to 2007, and a total of 2.8 million tourists overall.

Due to breathtaking endless stretches of beautiful beaches, phenomenal cliff walks, and 300 plus days a year of sun, the Costa del Sol provides a perfect get away all seasons of the year.


The Costa del Sol can roughly be divided into the eastern section and the western. The eastern section is the area lying to the east of Malaga City and runs for 54 kilometers, covering 200 meter high cliffs and runs all the way to the Nerja with the spectacular Nerja Caves where dance and music festivals are hosted within the natural caverns.

Calpe Spain, 67 km away from the northern parts of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, Spain, is perfect romantic destination for holidays with the combination of sun and beach. The city Calpe is famous for its massive rock named penon de lfach that inspired visitors to come and have a look of entirely beautiful view of the Costa Blanca and the bays. But, the numbers of visitors that allowed going to the rock are limited.

While offering the richness of its culture, the Calpe town is located at Alicante on the Costa Blanca in the Spanish region. Catering to the needs of the 21st century tourist, Calpe is a combination of beachside buildings and narrow medieval streets. There are two churches in the city, close to each other, which are really worth to visit namely the church Senora de las Nieves and Iglesia Antigua.

There is not much I can say regarding Italy’s match against Spain; other then I saw it in “Bar Napoli” and in the company of those who had been there for Italy’s previous match other then the already known fact that we won 2-1. Naturally as with any quarterfinal match, this one was not without its great moments which saw cheers from us; Italy’s ever faithful “tifossi”. The first of which coming at the 25 minute mark when a long range effort from Dino Baggio found the back of the Spanish net and put us ahead 1-0, which was also the score that ended the opening half.

Barcelona is considered to be the second largest Spanish city. With parks, beaches, and other recreational sites, Barcelona is clearly the leading tourist location of Spain. This city faces Mediterranean Sea and has a beautiful landscape that appeals to the tourists all over the world. Since it is located close to the sea, Mediterranean climate exists in this part of the world which signifies that summers are hot and humid with a rainfall caused mainly due to convection whilst the winters are cool and damp.

There are over sixty eight municipal parks out of which twelve are impregnated with historical importance and five botanical parks, a whopping number of forty five urban parks, and lastly, six forest parks. There are about seven beaches in the city which together form a coastline that is 2.8 miles wide. The geography of this land was restructured during the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. The large cement structures were brought to ground and hence paved way for these beaches. There are umpteen hotels that cater to excellent accommodation needs of the tourists.

Madrid also offers great nightlife with its live music and trendy night clubs.
