The mentioning of an equal to the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame would only turn a very few heads and receive lukewarm attention. However, anyone who sets foot on this great Avenue of Stars will immediately agree that its attraction goes a few steps further than the concept followed in Hollywood. It is located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The park does not only contain plaques emblazoned with the names of Hong Kong actors and actresses, but will also be treated to videos, sculptures, souvenir kiosks, and interesting tidbits about the history of Hong Kong cinema which is more than hundred years old. This project was supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Tourism Commission, Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government and the Hong Kong Film Awards Association. Greeting the visiors as they enter the Avenue of Stars is a 4.5 m tall replica of the statuette given to the winners at the Annual Hong Kong Award Festival. The 440 meter long promenade which contains plaques honouring the stars, encapsulates the history of cinema in Hong Kong. These plaques not only contain the names of stars but also their handprints and autographs on the cement, except of the stars who are now deceased. Bruce Lee, Jet Lee and Jackie Chan all have a star on the avenue, as well as numerous other luminaries. The inscriptions on nine red pillars on the Avenue of Stars summarize the story of Hong Kong cinema. The Avenue of Stars is also the ideal spot for watching the spectacular show ‘A Symphony of Lights’, a nightly multimedia item which also display pyrotechnics on special occasions. A number of other attractions are in close vicinity such as the Museum of Art, Space Museum, Cultural Centre and the Clock Tower.
